Parents with children aged 16 or older need to take action before 31st August or their child benefit payments may end
We know that lots of Unify members are parents and rely on Child Benefit as an important part of their income.
Child Benefit can continue for a child under 20 years old if they stay in ‘approved’ further education – but if your child is 16 or older you need to act now.
If you have not informed HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) about your child’s educational arrangements your payments will stop automatically on 31st August.
Individuals with children aged 16 and 17 who confirm their arrangements online or on the HMRC app will see changes applied to their Child Benefit claim immediately, by viewing their proof of entitlement.
Individuals with children 18 or over who are eligible can advise HMRC via an online form, and changes will be applied automatically.
Users can also see recent Child Benefit payments and update their address details instantly online or in the app.
If you are currently using your Child Benefit to re-pay a loan with Unify and think there will be a change to your payments after 31st August, please contact us directly to discuss your options.
If you want to save for a rainy day or a holiday, a Unify account is quick and easy.
