Five Easter Family Days out for Under a Fiver this Easter

Thursday 30th Mar, 2017

The Easter holidays are upon us. A whole two weeks of school-free fun stretch out before us. Sometimes days can get pretty pricey when you have the whole family together. So we have put together five days out in Wigan and the surrounding area for under a fiver. Eggs-actly what you were looking for, right?

Haigh Woodland Park

It's the grand re-opening of the Friends of Haigh Woodland Park's Crazy Golf after its revamp. The Mayor of Wigan will perform a official opening on Sunday, April 9 and with all the proceeds donated to the Wigan and Leigh Hospice. The Mayor will be judging a Mad Hat competition with prizes for best adult and child at 1.30pm.

While you are there, enjoy the 250 acres of wonderful and historic woodlands and plantation wrap around the Georgian hall, the country trails, a 15-inch gauge railway, a model village, children's rides, walled gardens, and stables centre with its café, information centre, and craft gallery.

Crazy Golf is £1 per round (from Saturday, April 1 onwards, 11am-4pm). Parking £3 all day.

Wigan Roller Rink

Get your skates out and glide over to the Wigan Roller Rink. Europe's largest indoor roller rink puts on additional daytime sessions during school holidays. You can hire skates that fit from around 3-4 year olds for £3. All children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is £4 during the day, £2 spectators. No need to book.

Wigan Arts Festival

Two weeks of acclaimed live music, art, theatre, dance, poetry, comedy, family events and workshops at Wigan's multi-arts festival over the Easter holidays. With over 100 events from local to world-class international artists and companies features something for all ages.

Choose from one of the many free or low-cost events until April 16.

Wigan & Leigh Hospice Easter egg hunt

This is the top end of the budget but it does go to charity and you can't beat chocolate in the great outdoors. Help Bess & Ted hunt for Easter eggs and get creative making Easter crafts at the hospice with the fundraising team and volunteers.

Sunday, April 9, 11am-4pm, £5 per child. Call 01942 524204 (Mon-Friday 9am-4.30pm) or email fundraising@wlh.org.uk to book.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Put a spring in your little ones' steps with some crafty family fun. Eggs-cellent chance to get stuck in with activities and trails then create a seasonal masterpiece to take home.

Museum of Wigan Life on Tuesdays and Thursdays April 4, 6, 11, 13 between 1-2.30pm, £2.50 per child, booking required.
